IT was great to read your article on The Regal cinema 10 years on and I would like to add another memory.
The original Jaws was first released and shown at the Regal on June 20, 1975.
At the time Heather Ollier was an usherette at the Regal and also secretary at Church Walk School where my wife Glenys Farrell was a teacher.
The girls soon came up with a plan to have a Blue Peter model of a shark in the Regal foyer and enlisted me and my pal Brian Ollier to make one.
We made the model in the front room of 34 Water Street and had to take out the sash window to get it out.
Brian and I carried the 15ft papiermache shark with all its teeth exposed down London Road to the Regal.
The funniest moment was when we had to stop at the traffic lights with all the motorists laughing their heads off at us and asking did we catch it in the mighty River Dane.
Anyway we got a free ice cream tub off the manager for our services.
I wonder if anybody remembers the shark in the foyer?
