I LIVE on Kingsmead and this estate has a fire station bordering it, it also has strategically placed paramedic cars parked up and is a through route for police too.
At night (11pm and through the night) I see no reason why sirens are used while travelling along a completely empty road.
Guidelines say that sirens should not be used at night through builtup residential areas but half the time it sounds like downtown Manhattan with sirens literally every few minutes.
Clearly anyone who needs to use a siren should do but there cannot be enough traffic around in the dead of night to warrant every blue light also needing a siren.
