DURING the 2015 General Election I was the Labour Party Parliamentary Candidate for Eddisbury.
Travelling around the constituency, most electors had no idea they were inside Eddisbury.
It is currently named after the ‘hundred of Eddisbury’ which is an old geographic division of Cheshire local government.
The only geographical location called Eddisbury is Eddisbury Hill and that will be in the new Weaver Vale constituency after the proposed boundary changes.
Therefore there seems no logical reason for this anachronistic title to be used for this constituency following the boundary review.
I would propose that the constituency is named after its main population area of Winsford.
The Boundary Commission normally names constituencies after the main population area.
I therefore feel there is a very strong argument for the proposal I have outlined. I’m sure you would agree that as the main population centre calling the new constituency Winsford is the most logical choice.
Also as you know, the current MP has her constituency office in Winsford. It would put Winsford on the map at a national level and every time the MP was called, Winsford would be mentioned.
