I WAS driving along the country lanes into Northwich at the weekend and I had to slow down because there was a cyclist in front of me.
I was quite happy to wait until it was safe to overtake, but the male cyclist appeared to get really irritated and started waving frantically for me to overtake.
I’m glad I ignored him, because, in a flash, a car came round the bend in the opposite direction – a head-on collision would have been a certainty.
This isn’t the first time this has happened and I worry about less confident drivers who may have been intimidated into overtaking by this man’s behaviour.
My advice would be to use your own driving instincts and only overtake when you feel it’s safe - not when a cyclist tells you it is.
