I’M not voting in the election for Cheshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner because only one candidate has delivered a leaflet.

There has been no public meeting locally for voters to assess the four candidates standing as I learn from the internet.

Crime rates have fallen under the tenure of John Dwyer.

But he has not accounted for his contribution to this fall against his cost.

Crime rates, I believe, would have also fallen had the previous police authority continued.

The previous Cheshire Police Authority would, too, have introduced the new policies suggested by the candidates.

The 2012 turnout was a warning - of people’s lack of trust in police and crime commissioners.

A 2016 turnout less than double 2012, ie less than 25 per cent, for the second most important elected person in Cheshire, demands Government reconsider the principle of the post.
