I FEEL compelled to write regarding the continuing problem of gangs of youths congregating in or around the McDonald’s restaurant in Northwich town centre.

I have been witness to a number of threats and altercations between these aforementioned youths and innocent members of the public.

They are nothing short of abusive to both members of the public and McDonald’s staff.

I can see no reason why the town centre cannot be a teenage-free zone after 7pm of an evening as, other than McDonald’s, there is nothing else available to them.

It isn’t fair on people frequenting the restaurant, and I feel it is particularly unfair on the staff who have to put up with these youths on a nightly basis.

I would also like to know why our local constabulary feel that they cannot intervene in this matter.

Perhaps they could let us know.

If nothing is done, the problem will merely escalate and somebody who is the object of their abuse will one day turn around and take matters into their own hands.

Crack the whip. I would never have been allowed to act in this way when I was younger.

My father would have given me a thick ear, and a lot more.
