WITH regards to Dr Hurst’s letter in last week's Guardian I used to work for a global food importer who traded freely with the countries he mentions and lots more to-indeed global.

The good doctor states free trade – I might have lost the theme somewhere but does the EU not have trading restrictions/levies with some global communities – so could the writer expand on this one i.e. countries outside of the EU?

With regards to immigration – well we have been immigrated ever since the Romans and what did the Romans ever do for us? Yes we all know that one roads and sewers!

When the writer says we are not as rich as we were – this must be why only this week whilst searching for a Russian submarine possibly in our area – Britain had to call in a search plane from France because the RAF does not have one – this possibly due to the decommissioning of ours i.e. broken up!

I am also unclear on when Dr.Hurst states “We can once again be a world leader within an improving grouping of countries”. Does he mean a leader in the EU? In which case this isn’t globally.

Does he mean within the EU but "in-der-velt” -in this case improbably! as again the countries which he cites as free market would be world leaders in their own rights.
