I RECENTLY travelled on the Chester to Manchester line on a six-coach, 18-door, Northern Rail train.
What a dangerous event it is getting off the train at Northwich where there is an elevated section on the platform which only serves one of the train’s doors and it is pot luck if you get off the train at a door which is served by this unit.
There is no notice on the train or notification from the guard warning you of the problems leaving the train at Northwich. Not only is it a big drop to the platform, there is also a large gap between the train and platform to negotiate.
I can’t understand why the height of the platforms at Northwich are so out of sync with other stations on the line, it must be extremely difficult for older people and people with youngsters to get on or off the train here.
