IT WAS good to read in last week’s edition of your paper the report by Cheshire Police on the problem of so-called ‘Boy Racers’ using the Marina Car Park in Winsford and surrounding roads as a race track.

This was after the police had received a large number of complaints about this problem.

It stated that this had not been a problem recently!

Where have they been for the past number of years?

This has been a problem for at least four years that I know of.

Cheshire Police were going to provide extra patrol cars for a week to try to stamp out the problem.

Well, they have not.

The racers were back last weekend and have been every night since.

Not only are they putting lives at risk, theirs and other drivers, they are also ruining the car park.

No wonder the canal boats the council was trying to attract to the Marina Docks are staying away.

I would not like to be moored there while my sleep was interrupted by cars and motor bikes doing doughnuts, not the sugar coated type – the burning rubber ones.

Please let’s put a stop to this madness.

To the council – Please close the car park at night.

To the police – Please stop these drivers by using unmarked cars and police bikes.

Once stopped by the police then do not rely on computers to tell you that these cars are insured.

I am sure these drivers have not informed their insurance companies of every modifications they have made to the model sold by the manufacturer.

If they haven’t then their insurance is invalid and they are breaking the law by driving that vehicle on the road.

Insurance companies do not insure your car to allow you to race on the highway.

This makes their insurance invalid and any accident that involves these racers will leave any injured parties unable to claim damages.

I remember being stopped by the police because my car was making a louder noise than normal due to a small hole in my exhaust.

This was done by a police officer on foot patrol. He could hear the noise. He was not sat in a police car.

Enough is enough. If you hear these drivers then please call the police on their non-emergency number 101. Perhaps a large number of calls may make Cheshire Police realise this problem is not going away.

Let’s not have a death on the roads of Winsford due to these (I can only think of one word to call them) lunatics.
