SOME months ago I wrote to the Guardian citing ongoing problems with deterioration in Northwich town centre.

I questioned the choices Cheshire West and Chester Council were making in spending millions of pounds on regeneration in Northwich without actually improving anything in the heart of town, ignoring crumbling buildings disgusting sewers and pavements that wouldn’t look out of place in a third world country.

Now, with the appalling injuries suffered by Phyllis Astles tripping on uneven flagstones in Leicester Street, CWAC needs to be held responsible.

So with the money tap fully on, it shouldn’t be a problem to heavily compensate Mrs Astles and then do something about the awful state of town.

If this isn’t bad enough I then cast my eye over the letters page in the Guardian, August 12, and come across Graham Evens MP congratulating himself in a letter concerning the campaign for the new Winnington bridge.

While this is obviously a big issue it highlights the blinkered shortsighted views politicians and councillors have when it comes to the grand gestures that one can easily put their names to and the smaller but equally important issues that people really want dealing with that are ignored and treated as a hindrance.

So come on Graham and CWAC.

When you have finished patting yourselves on the back maybe we could have a few thousand pounds from your money tree thrown in the direction of things that matter.
