STRANGE views from the Fly in the Ointment last week regarding hogging the middle lane on motorways.

This practice changes motorways into dual carriageways and when other vehicles have to slow down before finding a gap in the outside lane a ripple effect is caused which in busy periods can cause the whole motorway to grind to a halt.

Obviously when lanes are chock full, hogging will not occur but to state that 70mph in the middle lane prevents people from speeding is a puerile argument.

It is not up to him to police driving standards.

The lane one drives in on a motorway is the inside lane, the other two lanes are for overtaking only.
