FOLLOWING your front-page news last week, it appears that yet another foreign-owned corporation thinks it would be a great idea to lug garbage from around the UK to Northwich for 'treatment'.
We already have TATA which is planning to build a Wembley Stadium size plant to burn rubbish in Lostock and now DONG wants a piece of the action.
The residents of Lostock and Rudheath and the other nearby suburbs will surely be up in arms at the prospect, not only because of potential air pollution, but also the huge increase in large diesel HGV traffic on local roads.
Frightening, particularly if you are the parent or guardian of one of the 1,000 or so children who attend the nurseries and schools that are located less than half a mile from where the plants will be located.
It is a frightening fact that there is no other town or city in the world which is having to put up with waste treatment plants of this scale located in what is now a residential area and so close to an urban town centre. Surely Northwich deserves better than to be treated as a rubbish tip by towns and cities across the UK?
