LAST week was education week and the usual debate took place with children from all of Winsford’s schools represented by the Education Partnership.

This annual event, arranged by Winsford Town Council, again took place in the Wyvern council chamber with children representing all the schools, and the councillors from the town council also present, as was Cllr Nicole Meardon, lead member for education.

The event was chaired by the town mayor and the director of education was also present.

Presentations were made by every school, many concerns were expressed and suggestions made about how things could be improved in the town.

Suggestions include: more good-quality shops should be encouraged at affordable rents; lack of good provision youth services; better and more transport facilities; cinema should be provided at more affordable rates.

It was explained that most of the improvements could only come about with the help from the Cheshire West and Chester Council.

The councillors from the town council promised that they would debate what has been requested and will report back to the Education Partnership as soon as possible.

It was Education Partnership leader, Val Godfrey’s last meeting as she is retiring from the post. She was thanked for her contributions over many years to the partnership and was presented with lovely flowers for her service to the Winsford Schools.
