CONCERNING road safety at junctions.

There is a major problem at the Davenham roundabout on the A556. Although it is in a built-up area there are no traffic lights. It is very hazardous for cyclists trying to cross from Leftwich to Davenham Village, as the lack of lights means that they have to risk crossing an uncontrolled junction where only the common sense of the more responsible drivers, reduces the possibility of a fatal accident.

Many near accidents are only avoided by quick thinking, as car drivers crossing west to east are in conflict with those hoping to cross north to south.

The same applies to pedestrians; particularly in the morning and evening periods, when the traffic flow east, west and vice versa, is almost continuous.

Another equally serious issue, is the increasing number of adult males and teenagers, seen using mobile phones while cycling on the highway; sometimes even riding no hands.

That, quite apart from being illegal, is also suicidal to say the least.
