I ATTENDED the Middlewich Town council meeting on May 9 when the following resolution was passed "Middlewich Town Council calls upon Cheshire East Council to bring forward a schedule of works for the completion of the Middlewich eastern bypass with a start date by the end of 2016".

I was very surprised and disappointed to listen to Simon McGrory speak against the resolution. Indeed, four Middlewich first councillors voted against it.

They refused to support the 2,000-plus residents who have signed the petition in favour of the bypass.

I thought Middlewich First councillors believed in putting Middlewich first? Their actions seem to be doing anything but. Once again we seem to be failed by those people elected to represent the people of Middlewich.

This morning I had a meeting with our MP, Fiona Bruce.

She has expressed her support for the bypass and indicated she is in regular meetings with Cheshire East Council, where she has said that Middlewich has been left behind.

It really is about time Middlewich was taken far more seriously by Cheshire East Council. It is important that we keep the pressure on to get a date for the bypass to be built rather than accepting empty promises. I sense the tide is turning.
