I WANT to thank the vandals who smashed up the telephone box on Chapel Street, Wincham, right next to the newly renovated children’s play area. And yes, the children just love playing in the broken glass.

You have saved us all a great deal of time and trouble.

There we were, wasting our efforts wondering whether or not we could use the out of commission phone box to house our defibrillator, and if we could keep it accessible to the general public. Now we have the answer.

After all, you probably assumed it was just an old phone box and someone will repair it so you can smash it up again to show that... well, that you can smash it up again. Excellent. It’s not your fault that it could be used to save lives.

You didn’t know. And frankly, you will assume we’re glad the defib wasn’t in it or it might have been wrecked as well.

I suppose you think we owe you a favour after all. If we knew where you lived we could come round and thank you personally.
