AT the Sandbach hustings I genuinely believed that I correctly recalled voting against an extension of Sunday Trading hours – something I have spoken against strongly in Parliament.

Unfortunately Hansard, not infrequently, makes errors and I will be checking the record with Hansard – if I am returned to Parliament!

While writing may I point out that the description of me in thousands of Labour leaflets as ‘part time’ could not be further from the truth, as people who know me in Middlewich and across the Congleton Constituency know.

As MP I have worked, on average, over 70 hours a week and taken less than two weeks holiday a year over the past five years.

I have been utterly committed to this area, determined to make a positive difference and the description of me as ‘part time’ – when in fact I have been pleased to be double time! – is both untrue and unworthy. For me, being MP, for this area has been the best job in the world and one I very much hope to do again.
