AT A hustings in St Mary's Church Sandbach, I asked the Congleton constituency candidates to oppose any changes to the Sunday Trading Act.
The Lib Dem and Green appeared to be unsure of their positions, while the Conservative and Labour candidates supported the current law governing shop opening hours on Sundays.
However, Mrs Bruce claimed to have voted against a suspension of the Sunday Trading Act for the London Olympic Games.
This is untrue, as anyone can check in Hansard, the official parliamentary record, for 30 April 2012 (columns 1278 to 1362).
As Darren Price, the Labour candidate, pointed out, Mrs Bruce had actually voted for the programme motion which let the government railroad the bill through the House of Commons in one evening without proper debate or scrutiny.
She then went on to abstain on the Olympics Sunday Trading Bill rather than vote against it as stated at the hustings.
Perhaps Mrs Bruce can explain?
