I ALWAYS thought reading was a requirement of drivers in order to pass their test and take to the road.

After my experience on Chesterway I presume it is not.

The signs leading up to the roundabout at the top of town show which lane drivers should be in, i.e. nearside lane for first and second exit, outside lane for third, fourth and back down the dual carriageway.

Do drivers really not pay any attention to the signs which are also printed on the road surface?

Almost every time I travel to the shopping outlet (Manchester Road) or to Tesco there is some idiot in the inside lane taking the same exit off the roundabout.

Can they not read the signs showing which lane to be in?

Today was no exception, two cars followed one another along the inside lane of the dual carriageway, entered the roundabout and took the third exit (Manchester Road), forcing me to stay on the roundabout.

Was I supposed to risk an accident and take the turning I wanted forcing the two cars to take evasive action?

Of course not, I had to bow to their bully boy tactics and take the fourth exit heading towards Rudheath.

Drivers, please pay attention to which lane you are in before an avoidable accident occurs.

Also, I have no objection to the one way system and, in fact, believe it to be a vast improvement on the old road layout.

However, could we please have the signs back at the bottom of Castle and Winnington Hill asking drivers to stay in lane over the bridge?

Nine times out of 10, when driving into Northwich, traffic can be held up waiting for one car to change lanes before getting on the bridge.

There is plenty of time to change lanes once one is through the Bull Ring traffic lights.
