Manpower in the armed forces rose slightly during the three-month

period from July to September, despite projected cuts of 25% over the

next four years.

The strength of the regular forces rose by 269 to 297,494. Manpower

went up by 697 in the Army, 146 in the Royal Navy and 61 in the Royal

Marines, but fell by 635 in the RAF.
