BERYL Jones has not got to the issue of the new Memorial Court, Guardian March 11. What a waste of £12.5 million of taxpayers' money, our money.

How much would it have cost to renovate the Memorial Hall and retain those priceless memories? How much would it have cost to expand the swimming pool at Moss Farm to eight lanes and a diving pool?

We will never know, but an estimate would be around a tenth of the cost of this new blot on the landscape.

Where was the consultation with the public? The results of the consultation for a new swimming pool were ignored.

There are already four gyms within walking distance and a plethora of cafes in town, who needs more? This is a building that nobody likes, nobody asked for, wasn't needed and looks entirely out of place.

We are also encumbered with the running costs as a building of that size and structure can never make a profit. How much does Winsford Lifestyle centre cost to run per annum?

Meanwhile, the old plaza is struggling for funding, the library is falling down, the market toilets are not fit for purpose and Moss Farm is about to be abandoned due to lack of investment.

Councillors are elected by the people to represent the people. They should listen and not force their will upon the people.
