I AM a housewife and hold the purse for any purchases needed to keep our household ticking over.

My husband is an accountant and has always been supportive of any outgoing monies I have been the instigator of.

The HS2 project is only to reward any person (on the side lines really) who will push this scheme through.

As always, it is the wealthy people who will be involved and also the wealthy who will be able to afford to use the route to and from London as the fares will not be in the remit of travellers who may wish to use this overpriced commodity.

The state which this country is in does not justify a scheme such as the HS2.

Any housewife such as myself would look at their finances before any meaningful purchases could be made, and in this HS2 case nothing like this has been done.

I am absolutely disgusted that an area of our beautiful countryside is to be carved out.

Farmers are to lose their livelihood, some after generations of working their land here.

Houses are to be demolished with no thought of owners’ feelings.

So there will be compensation, but that does not mean a thing when lives are wrecked.

This un-needed railway journey will only benefit people who may be able to afford the high cost, and to what advantage?

I am absolutely sickened to see “Lord “ so and so or “Sir” so and so on the television trying to persuade everyone what a wonderful project this will be.

Do they live where the land is to be carved up?

Do they know anything about the people farming the land where this ridiculous overspend is to take place?

Our politicians should also take the blame for everything connected with this awful plan.

They evidently do not look in their purses before planning something of this stupid enormity .
