FURTHER to the concerns raised by residents and rail users regarding the imminent imposition of parking fees at Hartford station, a meeting was held between Graham Evans MP, those living close to the station, and myself.

It is feared the coming charges will result in station users seeking on-road parking and, by doing so, add to the already dangerous situation that exists along Chester Road and the side roads adjacent to the station.

At the meeting, held on Thursday afternoon at the station car park, residents complained about the inconsiderate manner in which drivers park their cars; the problems ranging from parking on bends and other dangerous locations, including footpaths (cars often left for a week or more while their owners go away on business or holiday), to returning drivers emptying litter from their cars onto the roads and verges.

It is appreciated that many drivers attempt to use the station car park and, when unable to do so, try to park with consideration for others; unfortunately the problems are caused by those who give little or no thought to others.

It was the general view that, not only should parking facilities be extended, but that the use should remain free.

To what degree, if at all, the above can be achieved, will be sought at a meeting with executive members of London Midland, Graham Evans and the Parish Council.

The Parish Council have fought a long campaign and have held numerous meetings with CWaC Highways management, Rail users Association, the residents themselves, and senior police representatives. Dialogue has been sought with London Midland, the train operators, with little response.
