AS WE approach the end of the year and look forward to 2015, on behalf of the Labour group of councillors on Cheshire West and Chester Council, I would like to wish all residents a merry Christmas and a happy and peaceful New Year.

The run up to Christmas can be very busy, with people working hard to make the holiday time special for their families.

It is important that we remember people who are alone at this time of year and take the time to visit and check that they are alright during these short, cold winter days.

We also need to give thanks to the people who will be spending Christmas taking care of the vulnerable, the frail and the sick, whether working in the NHS or the wider community services.

I would like to pass on our gratitude to all the staff working in the emergency services of the police, fire and ambulance, offering 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week commitment to keep our communities safe and well.

I hope everyone enjoys a peaceful and happy Christmas time.
