I HELD a surgery last Saturday morning at Northwich Library, and on my way there I took the opportunity to observe the new Memorial Court building in all its green glory.
I have my own view on it but l decided to undertake a rough opinion poll through the people l came into contact with.
I canvassed the views of a number of people at the library and in the afternoon while watching Northwich batter the Bowden rugby team.
I asked at least half a dozen more and then at a dance at Winnington Rec on Saturday night, I sought the views of a similar number of Northwich residents.
Not one person had anything positive to say about this huge structure which now dominates an area of our town centre.
Comments varied from a 'horrendous green carbuncle' to something that 'should be on the seafront at Blackpool'.
How have we ended up with this and have we more to come at Barons Quay?
Waitrose and the Marina are fine, but Memorial Court is a blot on our landscape and totally out of context with our traditional architecture.
From now on, my fellow councillor, Paul Dolan and I will be closely scrutinising further town centre development.
