CHESHIRE East has again another date for completion of the Middlewich Eastern Bypass. Councillor Parsons asks about the pedestrian crossing on St Michaels Way, but what has happened to the promised crossing on the A530 Nantwich Road (Middlewich)?

This is soon to have more pedestrians/residents with the building of housing linking through to Tewkesbury Close with the footpath approved by the CE Planning.

The A530 one of Britain’s worst roads for collisions; highways have carried out speed restrictions at Whalleys Green through to Bradfield Green (Leighton).

I can see work has been made to reduce road traffic collisions, but where Highways have imposed a 50mph limit on a bend-in a dip close to the Verdin Arms Pub heading towards Crewe, I think this would have been better starting on the approach from Middlewich/Occlestone to the Wimboldsley Railway Bridge.

As accidents occur at this point in both directions with traffic flying over the bridge, it might be further increased by traffic speeding up leaving the new restricted area towards the national speed limit area towards Middlewich.

CE Highways say that improvements are made to a national standard, so that’s over a hump-back bridge with no warnings of a speed restriction, 50 mph stated on a bend in a dip!

This is in a bad place especially if wet or icy, the limit then becomes 30mph within a few hundred yards.

This limit of 30mph is imposed right on the junction turn off for Church Minshull. The village’s 30mph area then back to 50mph through the double bends along then to Leighton passed to the existing 30mph at Bradfield Green. This road is a fast track for Emergency Service Vehicles to Winsford and Middlewich and Junction 18 of the M6.

No doubt any ESV drivers will now have to exceed the speed limits throughout the “improved” area and be delayed by slower traffic in the 30 area. Perhaps it would have been better to extend the previous 40mph limit on the north side of Whalleys Green.
