MILLIONS of families are currently looking after their elderly or disabled relatives and on Carers Rights Day, November 28, Carers UK released research which shows that 6,000 more people become carers every single day.
In Cheshire West and Chester, which includes Northwich, Frodsham and Helsby, it is estimated that there are 37,121 carers.
I know from personal experience of caring for a loved one that this can often be a real struggle.
Many carers say they feel pushed to breaking point. Too often carers don’t come forward for help or get any breaks because they simply don’t know they are entitled to them.
Many don’t even see themselves as being a carer; they’re just a son, daughter, husband or wife trying to look after the person they love.
It’s not right that people who do so much get so little in return. That’s why Labour is calling for a new duty on the NHS to identify carers, so they can get the information and support they deserve.
