WHEN the cameras are around, Tory MP, Graham Evans is more than happy to hold up placards and be seen campaigning in support of local pubs and industry organisations. He even trumpets the fact he is vice-chairman of the Beer All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), a member of the Save the Pub APPG.

When it came to making a real difference in Parliament recently, by voting in support of local pub businesses, he refused to support a cross-party call for a fairer deal for pub landlords.

Instead, he chose to toe the usual David Cameron line of standing up for the giants of the drinks industry, allowing them to continue to exploit pub tenants, rather than standing up for small local businesses.

Graham Evans needs to explain to the people of Northwich why he fails to understand the mixed message this gives to local people and local pubs.

Every week, 27 pubs in the UK close and 57 per cent of landlords tied to large pub-owning companies, earn less than £10,000 a year.

These are scandals which must be addressed, and I was proud that Labour MPs voted to support local pub landlords.

If I am elected in May 2015, people in the communities of Northwich can be assured that I will always support local pubs with deeds as well as words.
