AS I travel around I can’t help but notice the failure of Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) on common sense issues. 1,200 homes at Winnington Urban Village on a brownfield site is a good idea, a decrepit single lane swing bridge to cope with the traffic demands of the new development is not.

CWAC’s decision not to demand a better crossing was nothing short of ignorant. Its decision to throw money at a roundabout nowhere near the traffic problems is nothing short of arrogance. Its response is another example of its failure to support and serve the people who live in the area and pay their wages.

Another issue is the continuous excavation of Winnington Avenue. How many times does the road need to be dug up? Who oversees the planning and construction of the development? In other areas, if a utility company or developer were to excavate a highway or footway as many times as the Urban Village developers have, there would be trouble and big fines dished out.

My father-in-law received a parking ticket last week for not parking in a dedicated parking spot.

His car was not obstructing anything or anyone, Sainsbury’s car park was closed, so parking spaces were scarce. Many received fines for the same offence that day too.

He has used the car park for 25 years, three or four times a week to shop in his local town.

How does this encourage folk to shop in a dying shopping centre?

I am not opposed to change and Northwich needs it, but at the expense and displeasure of the people they should be supporting.

I think CWAC and the people who make these decisions are short on good old common sense to ensure good infrastructure is in place before they make their many millions of pounds.
