I AM sorry that Clr Manley is handing over the town’s regeneration portfolio and I am grateful for all the help and advice that I have received from him.
I have written to him to suggest that more is made of the town’s shipbuilding industry history.
As far as I am aware, little or nothing is being made of it in the town’s regeneration story and I believe it should certainly be included somewhere.
Perhaps there could be a water feature at the Barons Quay site or a Yarwood built ship moored there or on the canal. Something like the MS Cuddington moored at the Albert Dock.
Shipbuilding is an important and unusual piece of the town’s history which employed a large local workforce.
Yarwood vessels had a reputation for high quality and many were used throughout the world and still are.
