SURELY the days of the Weaver Square Shopping Centre must now be numbered with the opening of the Barons Quay mega shopping mall in a year or two’s time?
A bleak outlook for conventional high street shopping is also forecast by retail specialists.
Perhaps a better use of the land, which CWAC own, would be mixed housing and retail such as restaurants, cafes and leisure facilities, ideally with the housing made affordable for younger people through sponsorship by CWAC.
This would also have the effect of reducing pressure for housing on peripheral green field sites, such as Winsford and Davenham, to the relief of many residents now complaining bitterly over developments currently proposed.
