WE are writing in order to raise our objections to some Halloween items being sold in shops across our region.

While we do not agree with Halloween, we do acknowledge that they sell well and children do enjoy dressing up. It is neither our desire, nor our intention to be killjoys.

In one shop in Northwich, however, they were selling small swords and meat cleavers which depict dripping blood.

In the current climate, is this an appropriate toy for our children to be playing with?

The sale of these items is a very poor example to set to our young people.

We are also sure that the police would not be keen on revellers walking through the streets, brandishing meat cleavers.

How easy it is to tell the difference between a real weapon and a plastic one when you are monitoring the streets via CCTV?

Meat cleavers and swords are real murder weapons. We find it in extremely bad taste that they are made into toys.

If anyone feels the same as we do, please go into these shops, speak to the manager and together, we can get these items removed from sale.
