I READ with no small amount of amazement the letter from Anne Osborne, Guardian, August 20 concerning cyclists on the pavement.
In it, she offered a potential solution in the form of Netherlands-style tyre shootings by armed police.
Not only is this suggestion patently ridiculous, highly impractical and obviously untrue but this solution will cause a great deal more stress and worry to the police, the taxpayer, and any pedestrians wounded in the almost inevitable crossfire.
Cycling on the pavement when there are pedestrians around can be both rude and dangerous (it can also be considerate and safe), but if we're going to follow Ms Osborne's logic we might as well just get the police to shoot first the cyclists, and then pedestrians as a preventative measure.
