I WONDER if Tesco plc could enlighten us through your pages what they intend to do with the derelict land they own off Darlington Street in Middlewich.
They purchased it, as I understand the issue, in order to expand their present store.
They then decided against this when Morrison’s opened their nearby supermarket recently.
The land occupies an important part of Middlewich town centre and impacts significantly on the retail offering on the west side of Wheelock Street.
It is common practice for businesses to landbank valuable space in town centres though this does not necessarily mean that it is in the best interests of the community.
