IT is great news that Dorothy Perkins has decided to stay in Winsford.
With the prospect of new developments in Winsford and an increased population, retailers would do well to see the potential retail opportunities in our town.
Everybody now needs to come together to support retail in Winsford including the centre owners, Cheshire West Council and retailers.
I would love to see a retail enterprise zone in the shopping centre with both the council and the shopping centre owners coming together to offer lower rents and rates at least for a period of time to encourage retailers back into Winsford.
An enterprise zone makes sense because although the council and the Winsford Cross owners would initially see a drop in revenue, as the shopping centre fills up, both would benefit from increased revenue and there would be the knock on effect of more jobs in the town.
We need to take a leap of faith here and make brave decisions. With big investments in the Northgate project in Chester and Barons Quay in Northwich, it’s time to stop talking about the problems on our town and do something about it.
