I AM a little bemused by Dr Hurst’s letter last week regarding the MEP elections.

Firstly the writer states about the upsurge in voting for UKIP and his comments regarding losing our pro-active MEP Chris Davies.

As far as I am aware, we did not get a UKIP MEP in our region and irrespective of any ‘to you-to me’ feelings, which ever political party the ‘new man’ is, he is still ‘our’ MEP – who I hope Dr Hurst will still continue to lobby.

Secondly while immigration needs to be looked at, the writer states we need to strike a balance between immigration and those wishing to live elsewhere to improve their lives.

So how long have people being moving to the UK for a worse one?

I also hope that anyone moving to the UK does achieve an improved lifestyle.

While Dr Hurst sites bad press for the attitude to the EU, I am sure that he is aware that some EU directives are much better than those of the UK, some are not as good as the UK, such as fire safety regulations.

And now how does he feel that animal carcasses will not need to be cut open to look for ‘illness’ but just visually checked before entering the food chain?

While this might not affect anyone who I respect for being vegetarian, I am sure I would wish any meat – if only for my pet – is inspected at least to present standards, prior to this implementation from the EU.

My father enlisted and served this country in the Second World War, although he was employed in a reserve occupation, to enable Dr Hurst and others to be a free person to join a political party of their choosing.

So does he now want to kick UKIP for doing their ‘homework’ only for him to still not fully appreciate who lost the most vote share in the recent election?
