I am sorry that I have either confused or bewildered (OED) Alan Langley in my recent letter to your paper concerning the EU election results.

The region in fact obtained three UKIP MEPs, an increase of two and lost a valuable Lib Dem one at the recent European elections.

The Liberal Democrats were prepared to support the principle of free movement of people within the EU and tackle Nigel Farage on this point and paid for this courage and honesty at the polls.

I am not pretending that all legislation coming from the EU is helpful and will not comment on the one he refers to regarding slaughterhouse procedures due to lack of the precise details of his argument.

I fully recognise the right of UKIP to exist as political party and wish it well in its endeavours.

However, I also intend to exercise my right to criticise it when I feel the need to do so that I fear will be often.
