FURTHER to comments, which I support wholeheartedly, from the gentleman who runs the garden shop in Weaver Square, I would add the following.

Arriving in this area in 1982 the main topic in the Guardian appeared to be ‘The Northwich Vision’ but as the advert says ‘Should have gone to Specsavers’, Weaver Square just begs to be avoided; dreary, lifeless and uncared for.

The aforementioned gentleman is extremely brave to take on a new business here and deserves everybody’s support, including the visionaries with the grandiose schemes who now preside over what is best called ‘The Northwich Nightmare’.

Northwich is not a bustling township to compete with retail parks and towns like Warrington.

It should concentrate on what it did best, quaint shops selling a wide range of goods situated around the central area such as the Market Hall.

The larger stores are of benefit, but so are the independent traders with the good service they have always provided.

Please rescue Weaver Square before we all turn our backs on Northwich; promote investment in this central spot to the exclusion of the fringe areas, if that is the only way it can happen.

Forgive me but ‘The Northwich Nightmare’ is a reality.
