WHILE I welcome the news that Cheshire East has now approved the proposed Local Plan and that it might act as a constraint on planning applications, it will only have full force when the Planning Inspectorate has approved it later in the year.

Until then, we will have to see what further applications come in and how they progress.

Cheshire East has been very slow in progressing the Plan.

The planning process is still too developer-focused and needs reform to allow greater input by third parties with a right of appeal.

It is also important that developers consult meaningfully with local residents before submitting planning applications even when they own or have access to land in an area.

The Local Plan will help to avoid damaging developments though there is still nothing to prevent developers putting in applications whether they are in the Plan or not and backing them with all the resources at their disposal.
