I AM writing regarding the recently developed area in Northwich, positioned between the town bridges on the east side.

The Canal and River Trust has made the new moorings area very attractive, with numerous colourful canal boats moored alongside.

However, it seems a pity that the old slipway now appears to be inoperative and the small chandlery area has gone.

Would it be possible for some of the considerable funds which seem to be available for the proposed development at Barons Quay be used to widen part of the river in that area?

This would allow a large number of moorings to project from the river bank, rather than run parallel to it. Moorings could be used by both canal boats and small craft.

Also, further consideration could be given to the ideas suggested some time ago by the River Weaver Navigation Society, particularly the possibility of having a foot bridge over the river, and introducing small scale building development on the opposite side.
