I REALLY hope that there is no truth in this awful rumour that the council have plans to fill in this subway.
There are so many barriers to traffic moving smoothly through the town, there is no need to create any more by way of at least two pedestrian crossings (it would take more than one crossing, (one for Chesterway and also one for Watling St by the bus stops). The big advantage of the subway already being there is that there could be as many people crossing the road as you like, without risk of disrupting traffic.
If Clr Robinson is saying, as reported in the Northwich Guardian on February 12, it needs proper lighting, then I don’t believe he’s been through it in the past two or three years, as it was upgraded and is perfectly adequate. I’ve no idea what ‘proper security’ he wants in it!
