AS churned up grass verges go, the one I lost my temper over, and sent a photo to the paper, takes the biscuit, (Guardian, February 12). I wasn’t pretending it was the only defect to do with local roads that needs attention, but that it really is a mess, and hordes of passing children can get their feet in it.

It would be a good place for the council to start doing something.

The problem may well have been started, as Christian Leigh writes, Guardian, February 19, by heavy vehicles “carrying out vital maintenance”, but I’ve seen ones parked there over many months since.

Neither I, nor people who are present-day councillors, can be blamed for the lack of parking spaces around housing built 60 years ago.

I do understand that something is going to be done at a rate of one or two roads a year for places like Rowan Road, where residents have complained, and do mind that they have to keep driving off the road.

As for Withens Lane, no less than CWAC Councillor Fifield assured the parish council on Monday night that Weaverham will be first in line.

It’s something new.

If it works in Weaverham they are going to do it elsewhere.
