ON Monday, October 21, Clr Beckett the Labour leader on Winsford Town Council was successful in suspending the Mayoral Convention, which gives all qualifying councillors an equal chance of being selected as the next Town Mayor.
Instead the Labour nominee for Mayor in 2014 was selected only by the Labour group.
The Mayor Mike Kennedy, to his credit abstained from taking part in this change to the mayoral selection process and the Liberal Democrat and Conservative councillors voted against suspending the Mayoral Convention.
Next year, Winsford will have a Mayor who, for the first time in many many years, was not eleted unanimously by the whole council.
I am sure the incoming Mayor would have preferred to have been selected by the agreed democratic process, not like this.
