I LIVE close to the junction of London Road and Woodpecker Drive. During school term the traffic between 8.15am and 9am is very busy with traffic build up on the approach to Kingsmead traffic lights. The queue of traffic can extend well beyond Dunham Drive and Priory Close.
Well, the ‘accident waiting to happen’ is likely to arise from those very inconsiderate drivers who, through impatience, decide to overtake all the waiting cars and drive at speeds up to 30mph on the wrong side of the road heading towards the fire station entrance and Kingsmead traffic lights. These vehicles are overtaking possibly 15-20 vehicles on the wrong side of the road. I have witnessed several near accidents when vehicles entering London Road, to go towards Leftwich, from Woodpecker Drive only to met by vehicles travelling at speed on the wrong side of the road.
Indeed, should a fire engine enter London Road to go towards Leftwich and encounter one of these overtaking vehicles it could cause an accident or at best delay the emergency vehicle unnecessarily.
These bad drivers simply have no patience and are putting lives at risk. The worst case was one vehicle which started the overtaking manoeuvre from Priory Close.
