No plans for charges

I AM very disappointed to see that Labour are scaremongering again regarding the issue of car parking in Northwich town centre like they did before in 2011. The issue of civil enforcement is to do with on-street car parking eg people parking on double yellow lines not town centre car parks, as Labour are fully aware. I worked on this policy on a CWAC council cross party working group including a Labour councillor and I personally presented the recommendation of the introduction of civil enforcement to executive last year as it brings the old Vale Royal area in line with the rest of the borough.
This means that council civil enforcement officers will deal with on street parking issues rather than the police who usually have more important matters to deal with and therefore have not made this a high priority. Police should concentrate on fighting crime rather than watching yellow lines.
Readers should be aware it was Labour who introduced pay parking into Chester some years ago.
At full council on Thursday, October 17 we debated the issue of ‘revitalising our town centres’ and I specifically said that in my professional opinion as a chartered surveyor that ‘access to free car parking is vital to the long term future of any shopping area. For a town like Northwich, free car parking is essential’.
Let me make this clear, Conservative-run CWC has no plans to introduce pay parking into Northwich town centre.
