Marina is not suitable
4:52pm Wednesday 25th September 2013 in Letters
NOW that the new marina has been completed and much applauded by the Guardian in recent issues, can I ask, have CWAC building inspectors passed the plans and carried out any inspections on the work?
I make this point because I believe there is no way that a disabled or person in a wheelchair can access the riverside pathway from Hayhurst Bridge.
There is a nice set of steps, but they rule out not only a disabled or person in a wheelchair, but parents with children in buggies and cyclists.
The work to the Hayhurst Bridge end still appears to be incomplete, so will a ramp be installed to comply with Part M of the building regulations and the Disabled persons Act, etc?
I do not feel that disabled and people in wheelchairs and parents with children in buggies and cyclists can simply be told that they should travel to the other end of the path to access the river.
Another point about the footpath and cycleway along the Weaver Valley is the poor condition of the path between Hartford Road bridge and Vale Royal locks.
This path needs to be completed with a gravel finish to match the rest of the path to Winsford and from the Blue Bridge back to Queen Street.
This section is unusable for the disabled, people in wheelchairs and parents with children in buggies.
I will respond now to the point that travel between the Blue Bridge and Vale Royal locks can be made by using Vale Royal Drive.
This is even worse as there are less craters on the moon.
If the various waterways bodies such as H2O and CWAC are going to continually harp on about people using footpaths and cycleways then they should do some time and finish the job.
It wouldn’t take much money to provide a decent path between Hartford Road bridge and Vale Royal locks and get rid of those stupid anti cycle, wheelchair and buggy gates as well.
Has anyone from H2O, British Waterways and CWAC tried to get through these gates on a bike or with a buggy?
I would say no.
