REGARDING the comments from your readers and my guests about the Pay & Display scheme introduced recently at the Winnington Lodge.
We decided to implement a pay and display parking scheme at the pub to act as a deterrent against those that wanted to avoid the Infirmary parking charge and park at the pub when visiting the Infirmary but also Verdin Park (for various events that are held there).
This meant many of our guest parking spaces were taken up by people not visiting the pub and this had a negative affect on the business.
Pub guests would regularly comment to me that they struggled to park or that our car park looked busy and that they were surprised when the pub wasn’t as busy as it appeared from the outside.
While I appreciate this scheme might be an inconvenience to some guests, we do provide a full refund for paying guests on production of their Pay & Display ticket and can provide change when necessary.
The scheme is managed by a national parking management company, vetted and approved.
I have had discussions with this company to ensure there is sufficient signage explaining that there is a full refund for pub guests.
Please rest assured that this decision was necessary to ensure sufficient and convenient parking for the pub guests and not a money-making scheme.
I have taken on board your feedback and will continue to review the success of the pay and display scheme over the coming months and act accordingly.
