SO in a few weeks time the Memorial Hall will be no more.
Not that I for one shall mourn its passing, it never had much architectural merit and was never destined to become a listed building.
It was however more in keeping with the landscape than what will replace it; another dreadful ‘box’ which will be the new leisure and pool complex.
Why do CWAC planners fill our town with such structures?
We already have the hideous extension at Sir John Deane’s college and the old DHSS building, shortly to be followed by the new Waitrose supermarket.
I am sure none of the designs would have been allowed in Chester City centre, the favoured place in the county.
If Sainsbury’s and Tesco can have buildings more in keeping with the surroundings, why can’t the new constructions?
I dread to think what Prince Charles would make of all this, more ‘carbuncles’ I presume!
