JANET Holland’s letter, ‘Listen to what the people want’, Guardian, January 16, calls for comment.
She, like others, is agreeing with the earlier letter from Simon James, in which he condemns the waste of £12.5million for a lifestyle centre in the Memorial Court proposed by CWAC, and suggests alternatives of greater use to the town. Janet ends by saying ‘regardless of the views of the people of Northwich, CWAC seems intent on doing just what it wants’, and asks whether our supposed leaders ever listen to the views of ordinary people. I agree with her apparent perception of limited democracy and look forward to the results of an email questionnaire sent recently by the River Weaver Navigation Society to some 400 local people asking for views of regeneration projects, including a lifestyle centre in Memorial Court.
