Stoke City 1 West Bromwich Albion 0: delayed reaction

By Ian Probert »

APOLOGIES for those who were expecting my reaction to this match four days earlier - I was away this weekend and had no access to a computer.

Besides which, I've only seen the slightest highlights of our latest home success, so I'm hardly the best judge of how we played.

We finished Saturday's session on my course just in time for me to rush to the hotel bar and catch the last few minutes reported on Sky Sports News - when I heard there would be five minutes injury time with us only 1-0 up, I may have sworn loudly.

Much as I worry that he won't produce the goods in terms of goalscoring, it's great to see someone as dedicated as Mama Sidibe getting his rewards by helping us get the three points.

And the volley he produced in the first half, having brought the ball down on his knee first, deserved a goal too.

It was a classy bit of skill and let's be honest Mama's not been known for his silky touches!

It's hard to take seriously someone who sends out a team with one striker on his own up front, then complains about the quality of the game.

Ian Probert raises an eyebrow at the comments of moaning Tony Mowbray

Regarding Mowbray's comments, it's hard to take seriously someone who sends out a team with one striker on his own up front, then complains about the quality of the game. Not exactly going for broke, were you Mr Mowbray.

Anyway, who cares whether West Brom were lucky? Not me.

Had they won, they would have been level on points with Stoke. Instead the gap is six points.

And the confidence that home results are bringing Stoke and their fans is infectious.

We have already played Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa at the Brit and taken six points from them.

Even the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool will see us as a different proposition in front of 27,000 passionate fans.

If Stoke can win this Saturday against Hull, we reach 20 points with the season not yet half played.

I'll be there and I can't wait for Saturday to come.
